Janelle Shepard, MA, Licensed MFT

Hi! I am a self-esteem and ADHD specialist. I specialize in helping individuals struggling with executive function, distorted body image, anxiety and/or depression. I work on building my clients self-esteem, decreasing perfectionism and anxiety, and developing healthy relationships. I help my clients to cultivate a deeper sense of self-worth, learn boundary setting, and create a happier more fulfilling life.

I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and work with teens and adults age 18 and older. I want to work collaboratively with you to create a life that is meaningful to you. I am not a “stuffy,” you lie on the couch while I analyze you-type therapist. In addition to talk therapy, I incorporate art, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), somatic work and other modalities to increase insight and awareness, and build coping skills. I am also trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) which is an evidenced based therapy for treating trauma. I am a LGBTQIA affirmative, body neutral therapist and incorporate intuitive eating principles into my work. I have ten years of experience both working and studying in the mental health field. My work experience includes both inpatient and outpatient settings, schools, and non-profit experience.

I came into this work because it helped me turn my life around. For many years my body and the way my brain functioned were my enemies and a source of deep shame. Witnessing other people patiently hold onto the hope, dreams, and aliveness that I could not believe in at the time, inspires my work today. There is something incredibly powerful when we are able to connect with others and be accepted exactly as we are in the present. My goal as your therapist is to strengthen and build tools that work for your brain, and heal the relationship you have with yourself and others. Breaking old behavior patterns and beliefs can be messy, really hard and often takes time. But I believe in my clients, in their story, and their ability to lead a life that feels good to them.

Outside of the office I play bass, enjoy baking, long-distance running, watching Stranger Things, and love spending time with my family and 2 cats.
